Best of 2011: Albums, Songs and Live Acts.

This is a new start of the decade for Rock Music and it could not have been any better.  Last year was grim seeing how many excellent albums failed to chart and come into the limelight (My list for 2010’s album and songs of the year respectively: http://www.the-secret-chords.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-10-albums-of-2010.html and http://www.the-secret-chords.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-25-songs-of-2010.html) but this year saw the release of many commercially and critically successful albums with Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Coldplay emerging as clear winners. Not only this, all the major live acts successfully entertained the audiences all year long.

  1. I am a bit surprised at you not including 'Suck it and see' in albums of the year.
Also, the rest of the lists are pretty amazing.
I completely agree with the live acts.

  3. I mostly agree with your "top" (albums, live acts and songs), especially the four first of your to live acts (coldplay, arcade fire, foo fighters and U2). I think, though, Elbow could have been somwewhere inyour article:) But I know it's hard to pick only ten or fifty artists in a full year of music.

  4. Thanks Lily! I loved Elbow too and I would have surely put them into the list if it was a bit extended. In The Live act as well as "Build A Rocket Boys!" in the Top Songs..

  7. Cool list even though you really really like Alternative Rock.
As you know my favorites are MX, Moving To Mars and Coldplay. 2011 was the year of Coldplay for me. Cheers to 2014 :)

  8. Why hello there, Mr/Mrs. Anonymous. Thanks for calling it an amazing list and as for "Muse", they are definitely one of the most amazing contemporary live act but this year they didn't have that many outing to make it to the list.

Also, The song's called "The Lotus FLOWER" and not eater.. I loved it but somehow found Codex better. But Thanks again for taking time out and going through this.

  9. Hey Macky! This is a totally Rock inclined listing.. No other genres have been considered otherwise Kanye's album would have made it surely. And making predictions for next Coldplay album is a dangerous game.. We never know when they will release it.

  10. As long as I dont predict it on CPing, I think I'm safe.
I agree about Kanye. MBDTF was my #1 last year. He is "genreless"
